Arizona's Ibekwe Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA senior forward Ify Ibekwe was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 28- Mar. 6, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Senior forward Ify Ibekwe paced Arizona to two more road wins this weekend, a 50-46 win at Oregon State and a 88-65 win at Oregon. Over the two games, Ibekwe averaged 23.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in 39.0 minutes of action. Against the Oregon schools, she shot 63.0 percent from the field (17-27), 71.4 percent from three-point range (5-7) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-8). She also chipped in with 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.0 blocks per game.

In Corvallis, Ore. against the Beavers, the Carson, Calif., shot 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe for 15 points. Playing all 40 minutes of the game, her stat line also included 16 rebounds, including 11 defensively, three assists, four blocks and five steals. With less than one second to play on the clock and the Wildcats leading the Beavers by just two points, Ibekwe went to the free throw line and sealed up the win with two makes. In the win she picked up her 11th double-double of the season.

Against Oregon, she nearly matched her career best in points scored (32) with 31 on 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the field, 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from behind the three-point arc and 4-of-4 (100.0 percent) from the charity stripe. Her five three pointers made are a career best. She also chipped in with 15 rebounds, all defensive, three assists, two blocks and three steals.

On the season, Ibekwe averages 16.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and is the only Pac-10 player to average a double-double. She also pitches in with 2.4 steals, 1.6 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. She has 12 double-doubles this season and 53 in her career. This season, she has 23 games in double-digit scoring and 13 games in double-digit rebounding.

This season, Ibekwe has led Arizona to an overall record of 19-10 and a Pac-10 record of 10-18, the highest win totals for the Wildcats since the 2004-05 season when the squad earned an overall record of 20-12 and a Pac-10 record of 11-7. Arizona won the No. 4 seed in the Pacific Life Pac-10 Basketball Tournament and will face the No. 9 seed Washington at 2:15 p.m. PT on Wed., March 9 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. The Conference honor is the third of Ibekwe's career, second of this season and the 38th all-time selection for the Cats.
