LOS ANGELES - All-America third baseman Ricky Oropesa went 3-for-4 with two RBI Friday as the USC Trojans defeated the St. Mary's Gaels, 6-2, in first day action of the 2011 Dodgertown Classic at Dedeaux Field. Junior righty Andrew Triggs allowed just two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings as the Trojans (4-9) snapped an eight-game losing streak.
No. 20 Cal Tops Louisiana-Lafayette, 7-6
No. 20-ranked Cal baseball scored seven runs in the first five innings and had solid relief pitching from junior Matt Flemer as the Golden Bears held off Louisiana-Lafayette, 7-6, Friday (March 11) during the first day of the 2011 Cal Baseball Classic at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Offensively, the Bears had 12 hits, led by a 3-for-4 day from junior shortstop Marcus Semien and two hits apiece from junior catcher Chadd Krist, sophomore first baseman Devin Rodriguez and senior left fielder Austin Booker.
