Arizona's Graham, UCLA's Frattone Claim Weekly Gymnastics Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA junior Deanna Graham and UCLA junior Tauny Frattone have been awarded Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-10 Special Performance of the Week honors, respectively, for the week of Mar. 7-13, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Deanna Graham was one of the key figures in Arizona's win over BYU, New Hampshire, and Texas Western. Graham, a junior from Tucson, Ariz., helped the Wildcats end the regular season with a bang, as Arizona earned a new season high score of 195.675. Graham anchored the first rotation with a career-high score of 9.925 to catapult the Cats to an early lead of 49.125. Graham also finished first on the floor exercise earning a score of 9.875, and tied for third on bars as the Wildcats were just .01 shy of a 49, totaling a 48.900. Graham's scores enabled her to post a season high all-around score of 39.350 - only 0.05 shy of her career high total.
This is Graham's second career Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honor and 13th in Arizona history.
Junior Tauny Frattone won vault for the seventh consecutive meet, tying her career-high with a 9.95 after sticking her Yurchenko half on, front pike off vault. Frattone help led the Bruins to a season-high vault score of 49.575, the Bruins' highest vault score since Feb. 22, 2009 at Nebraska. The native of Lake Forest, Calif., leads the team with a 9.883 vault average, and has scored 9.9 or better in four of her last five meets. Frattone also had a strong performance on beam, tying her career-high with a 9.85 as the last competitor of the day to help the Bruins get over 197. UCLA's team score of 197.05 was its highest away score of the year and second-highest overall this season.
The Special Performance of the Week nod is Frattone's second of her career and UCLA's 16th all-time.
