USC's Jones and Ishimatsu Named Pac-10 Divers of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC juniors Harrison Jones and Victoria Ishimatsu have been named Pac-10 Divers of the Month for February, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Jones placed in the top three on all three events at the Pac-10 Championships, successfully defending his 1-meter title (435.00) and then finishing second on the platform (409.00) and third on the 3-meter (413.85). The Spring, Texas, native was named Men's Diver of the Meet for his performances. At the 2011 U.S. Winter Nationals on Feb. 5, Jones upset the field to claim the 3-meter springboard title for his first national crown. He scored 479.90 to win by 0.05 points.
Ishimatsu repeated as the Pac-10 Champion in both springboard events to earn her second-consecutive Women's Diver of the Meet honor. The 3-meter win was her third straight. She scored 366.75 on the 1-meter and 357.95 on the 3-meter. The Seal Beach, Calif., native was also fourth on the platform, her best finish on the tower at the Pac-10 Championships. In USC's dual-meet win over UCLA earlier in the month, Ishimatsu swept the springboard events.
This is Jones' third career Pac-10 Diver of the Month honor and the third for the USC men all-time. On the women's side, this is Ishimatsu's fifth career monthly award and the Trojan's ninth all-time, both the most in the Conference.
