Washington's Williams Named Pac-10 Men's Golfer of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Chris Williams of WASHINGTON has been named the Pac-10 Men's Golfer of the Month for March 2011.
Williams, a sophomore from Moscow, Idaho, birdied the final two holes to break a deadlock at the top of the leaderboard and win the Oregon Duck Invitational by two strokes over a pair of golfers, posting a 9-under 207. The win was the third of his UW career. The Huskies finished third, trailing only top-ranked Oklahoma State and host Oregon on the leaderboard.
At the Bandon Dunes Championship, he was second among individuals in helping lead the Huskies to their first team win of the season. Williams was even-par 216 for the tournament, finishing only behind teammate Charlie Hughes, who won by six strokes.
Also nominated for player of the month honors were Jonathan Khan, ARIZONA (earned his first victory with a 4-under 210 at the National Invitational Tournament); Scott Pinckney, ARIZONA STATE (posted a pair of top-10 finishes with a 4-under 209 at the USC Collegiate Invitational and a 3-over par 219 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters); Stephen Hale, CALIFORNIA (fourth-place 2-under 214 led the Bears to team title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters); Jack Dukeminier, OREGON (4-under 212 to capture a share medalist honors at OGIO Santa Barbara Invite); Alex Moore, OREGON STATE (7-under 209 second-place finish at the Duck Invitational included a school record 9-under 63 in the second round); Andrew Yun, STANFORD (5-under 211 fourth-place finish at the Linger Longer Invitational, his fifth top-5 finish of the season); Patrick Cantlay, UCLA (3-under 213 third-place finish at the SH Collegiate Masters, becoming the nation's consensus No. 1 player).
