UCLA's Harrison and Arizona's Fowler Named Pac-10 Softball Players of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA junior first baseman/outfielder Andrea Harrison and ARIZONA sophomore pitcher Kenzie Fowler have been named Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 28-April 3, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Kenzie Fowler notched three wins on the weekend while not giving up a single run in 15.1 innings pitched. The sophomore tossed two complete-game shutouts while entering to pick up the win in the third. Fowler allowed just four hits on the weekend while pitching 15.1 of the 18 innings played. The Tucson, Ariz., native held the No. 12 Cardinal to a batting average of .085 in the three games. Her Sunday shutout of Stanford was her best outing of the year as she limited the Cardinal to two hits over seven innings while striking out 10. Fowler struck out 17 batters on the weekend while walking just seven. Fowler, who has not allowed an earned run since March 18 vs. Michigan, earned wins number 19, 20 and 21 on the year.

Fowler was named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for her efforts, the second of her career and first of this season.

UCLA's Andrea Harrison had a fantastic week at the plate for the seventh-ranked Bruins, posting 10 hits in 12 at-bats (.833) to go along with nine runs batted in, eight runs scored and two home runs to help UCLA to a 5-0 record. Harrison slugged 1.500 for the five games and had an .842 on base percentage. She added a pair of doubles, four walks and was hit twice. Defensively, Harrison did not commit an error in 22 chances between her time at first base and in left field.

In Friday's Pac-10 opener against Oregon State, Harrison posted her second-career, four-hit game. After doubling in the first inning, she singled in three successive at-bats from the third through the fifth, scoring a run in the fourth. In the weekend finale on Sunday, Harrison had a grand ending to a wonderful series. She got the Bruins on the board in the first inning with an RBI single and followed that with a scoring fly ball in the second. After the junior walked in the fourth, Harrison capped off the weekend with a walk-off, grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to give the Bruins a 12-2 victory.

The six-RBI effort on Sunday was a historic performance for Harrison, who not only became the 14th Bruin to drive in a half a dozen in a game, but became the first player to do it three times at UCLA. Harrison leads the Bruins in all three triple-crown categories with a .432 batting average, 10 home runs and 38 runs batted in.  The junior has raised her batting average 173 points over her last 11 contests.

This is the third career honor for Harrison and the 115th all-time weekly honor for UCLA. The weekly nod is the third of Fowler's career and a Conference leading 132nd honor for a Wildcat.

UCLA will host Stanford this weekend in the second weekend of Pac-10 play and Arizona will travel to Oregon State.
