Track and Field Athletes of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Pac-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for April 11-17, 2011:
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Lawi Lalang, ARIZONA (Fr., Eldoret, Kenya)
Lalang, running his first outdoor 5,000 meter race in the Olympic Development section at the Mt. SAC Relays, obliterated the freshman record in the event. Lalang clocked a time of 13:34.62 to win the section and set the second-fastest time in the nation behind teammate Stephen Sambu, who ran in the elite section. Lalang lowered Robert Cheseret's freshman record by over 11 seconds.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Scott Roth, WASHINGTON (Sr., Granite Bay, Calif.)
Roth posted the best pole vault by an American in 2011 (indoors or outdoors) with his victory at the Mt. SAC Relays where he cleared 18-9 1/4. The only college athlete in a field of professionals including former Olympians, Roth cleared the bar on his first attempt to set a new Washington record, breaking the mark held by American record-holder Brad Walker. The clearance also ranks him second in the world outdoors this year.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Jasmine Chaney, ARIZONA STATE (Sr., Tempe, Ariz.)
Chaney led the way for the Sun Devils on the track at the Mt. SAC Relays as she had a hand in two wins and finished in the top three in all four races she participated in. The national leader in the 400-meter hurdles, Chaney won the event in 57.71. She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (13.51). In the relays, Chaney ran the anchor leg of the victorious 4x100 meter relay that finished in 44.53. She also anchored the 4x400 meter relay to second place in 3:33.22, which currently ranks sixth nationally.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Brigetta Barrett, ARIZONA (So., Duncanville, Texas)
Barrett got back to her winning ways at the Mt. SAC Relays, winning the Elite Invite section of the women's high jump with a season-best outdoor jump of 1.90m (6-2 3/4). Barrett now holds sole possession of the top collegiate jump in the country, a feat she has maintained since her first meet of the indoor season. Barrett has lost only one meet during the 2011 indoor and outdoor seasons. She is now tied for the top leap internationally in the 2011 outdoor season.
