UA Cruises in Series-Clinching Victory
Eleventh-ranked Arizona got six runs in the third and cruised from there, beating No. 12 UCLA 7-1 and taking its first series since 2004 against UCLA. Shelby Babcock and Kenzie Fowler tag-teamed for the victory with Babcock tossing the first four innings of one-run ball and Fowler finishing off the final three allowing only one hit. Babcock earned the win, improving to 17-6 on the year.
No. 1 Arizona State Takes Two From No. 13 Washington To Inch Towards Pac-10 Title
Seattle, Wash. - The No. 1 ASU Softball team inched towards yet another Pac-10 title Saturday as they finished off Friday's rain delayed game with No. 13 Washington with a 6-4 win before storming ahead to take a 2-0 win in game two of the weekend. The wins gives Dallas Escobedo two more on the season as she moves to 24-3 overall while ASU holds at 47-5 and 14-3 in Pac-10 play. The Huskies fall to 32-12 and 7-10 in conference play with ASU holding a two game lead in the Pac-10 with two more games to clinch the title outright.
Cal Gets 1-0 Win Over Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Ore. - After run-ruling the Beavers on Friday, the No. 7/8 Golden Bears only needed one run to down OSU, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. Lindsey Ziegenhirt was California's sole scorer, coming home in the top of the second, courtesy a fielder's choice by Victoria Jones.
Moore Stifles No. 10 Stanford, 2-0
EUGENE - Inspired by Jessica Moore's fifth shutout of the season, the No. 12 University of Oregon softball team (36-13, 8-9) ended a 10-game losing streak to No. 12 Stanford (37-12, 9-8) in Saturday's 2-0 win at Howe Field.
