Pac-10 Athletes Head to NCAA Track and Field Preliminaries in Oregon

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field West Preliminary Championship will take place in Eugene, Ore., this Thursday through Saturday, May 26-28. The University of Oregon will host the event at Hayward Field. 321 Pac-10 athletes are scheduled to compete this week.

Here's a breakdown of the number of Pac-10 student-athletes declared for competition this weekend:

ARIZONA - 15 men, 25 women

ARIZONA STATE - 17 men, 14 women

CALIFORNIA - 11 men, 21 women

OREGON - 23 men, 23 women

OREGON STATE - 2 women

STANFORD - 23 men, 19 women

UCLA - 23 men, 12 women

USC - 14 men, 11 women

WASHINGTON - 21 men, 13 women

WASHINGTON STATE - 19 men, 15 women

2011 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS... The top 12 finishers in each event from each of the two Preliminary Championship sites (Eugene, Ore., and Bloomington, Ind.) automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. This year's national championships will be held June 8-11 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

DECATHLON/HEPTATHLON... The top 24 entries in both the decathlon and heptathlon already qualified for Des Moines.
