World-Class Runners Training at McCarthey Family Track & Field
It did not take long for the University of Utah's McCarthey Family Track & Field to attract talent from all over the globe. Eight months after the official dedication, a group of five world-class distance runners has been using the Utes' on-campus facility to train for the 2011 U.S. Outdoor National Championships and the summer season.
The group known as the "Oregon Project" is coached by former USA Olympian Alberto Salazar and includes Amy Begley, Mo Farah, Adam Goucher, Kara Goucher and Galen Rupp.
Coach Alberto Salazar
Salazar is a former USA 5K and 10K record holder who won the New York City Marathon three consecutive times (1980, `81, `82) and the Boston Marathon (1982). He also was the World Cross Country Silver Medalist in 1982 before competing for the USA in the 1984 Olympic Games. Click here to read more about Salazar.
Begley was a 15-time All-American and two-time NCAA champion at Arkansas from 1998-2001 before becoming a six-time USA champion and 2008 USA Olympian. Click here to read more about Begley and keep up with the latest news on her website.

Adam Goucher was a four-time NCAA champion at Colorado University from 1995-98. He competed for the USA at the 2000 Olympics and is a five-time USA champion. Click here to read more about Adam Goucher.
Kara Goucher was a three-time NCAA champion and Colorado and has since won a USA championship. She was a member of the 2008 USA Olympic team and was a bronze medalist at the 2007 World Championships. Click here to read more about Kara Goucher and see how training is progressing on her blog.
Rupp was a six-time NCAA champion at Oregon and has won two USA titles. He competed for the USA in the 2008 Olympics and holds both the USA and NCAA Indoor 5K records. Click here to read more about Rupp.
The U.S. Outdoor National Championships will be held June 23-26 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The top three athletes in each event will qualify to represent the United States at the World Championships Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, South Korea.
