Three Named Freshman All-Americans
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Three Pac-12 players were named to the Baseball America Freshmen All-America teams announced Tuesday. UCLA right-handed pitcher Adam Plutko and STANFORD first baseman Brian Ragira were named to the first team. CALIFORNIA left-handed pitcher Kyle Porter was named to the second team.
Plutko was an All-Conference team selection in his first year. He finished the season with a 7-4 record and a 2.01 ERA, the second-lowest in the league.
Ragira, the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, led the Cardinal with 46 RBI. He hit .329 to rank second on the team and 10th in the conference.
Porter finished the season with a 6-0 record and 1.89 ERA. Porter threw 6.0 innings to help the Golden Bears stave off elimination with a 7-3 win over Texas A&M in the College World Series.
All three earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. Plutko and Porter were also named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America teams.
