UCLA and Cal Receive Preseason Rankings

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA and CALIFORNIA received preseason rankings from Soccer America and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). In the Soccer America poll released Monday, the Bruins garnered a No. 2 ranking and the Golden Bears were ranked No. 20. UCLA and Cal ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the NSCAA preseason poll.

UCLA returns every starter and point producer from last year's NCAA quarterfinalist team, including the 2010 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, midfielder Kelyn Rowe. UCLA begins the season on August 27 at Louisville, a rematch of the 2010 NCAA Quarterfinals. The Cardinals sit atop the College Soccer News, Soccer America and NSCAA polls.

The 2010 Pac-10 Champion, Cal is on the heels of an NCAA Quarterfinal appearance, which matched the 2005 team for the best postseason run in program history. Five-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year Kevin Grimes begins his 12th season in Berkeley. The Bears kick off the 2011 season for Pac-12 teams when they travel to San Francisco on August 26 for the Bay Area Classic.
