UW's Richards Named Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON senior forward Brent Richards was named Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of August 30-September 5, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Camas, Wash., native scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 overtime win over Loyola-Chicago on Friday in the Nike Portland Invitational. On Sunday, he led the team with eight shots, four on goal against then-No. 22 Florida Gulf Coast as Washington earned the 1-1 draw. Richards was named the tournament's Offensive Most Valuable Player. Richards, who has led Washington in goals since his freshman year, has three goals so far in 2011.
This is Richards' first weekly honor and Washington's 23th all-time Player of the Week.
The Huskies, who entered the NSCAA rankings at No. 23 this week, make the short trip to face Seattle University on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. PT.
