Altamirano Earns Weekly Honor
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - SAN DIEGO STATE junior midfielder Jose Altamirano was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 6-12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The San Diego, Calif., native scored three goals to lead the Aztecs to a pair of victories and the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament title via goal differential. For his efforts, Altamirano was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player. He was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Altamirano scored a goal on two shots in just 35 minutes on Friday to help SDSU defeat Manhattan, 4-0. On Sunday, he scored both goals in the Aztecs' 2-0 win over Penn. Altamirano leads SDSU with three goals this year after scoring two his first two seasons.
This is Altamirano's first weekly honor and San Diego State's 14th all-time Player of the Week.
The Aztecs leave San Diego for the first time this season and travel to face Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. CT. They then play at Houston Baptist on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. CT.
