Welshman Earns Bank of the West Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE junior forward Emery Welshman was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 27-October 3, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Mississauga, Ontario, native keyed Oregon State's 2-1 upset of No. 22 Washington in Friday's Pac-12 opener. In the 30th minute, Welshman set up freshman Mike Reckmeyer for the second-consecutive game to put the Beavers up, 1-0. Welshman notched his first game-winning goal of the year on a cross from freshman Khiry Shelton just before halftime to give Oregon State a 2-0 lead. Welshman has two goals and three assists for seven points this season after transferring from Siena College. The win over the Huskies was Oregon State's first home win over a ranked opponent since 2007.
This is Welshman's first weekly honor and Oregon State's 16th all-time Player of the Week.
The Beavers host two ranked Pac-12 opponents this weekend, facing No. 20/18 San Diego State on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. PT and No. 15/13 UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. PT.
