Stanford's Rodgers Pac-12 Men's Golfer Of The Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Patrick Rodgers of STANFORD has been named the Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Month for September, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Rodgers, a freshman from Avon, Ill., captured individual honors by winning the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with a score of 4-under 206, carding rounds of 68-70-68.
Battling rainy weather in the final round, Rodgers made two birdies and had no bogeys to win the tournament by three strokes in leading the Cardinal to a 16-stroke victory over an impressive field that included 10 Top-25 teams.
Rodgers met the team in Illinois after returning from Aberdeen, Scotland, where he competed in the Walker Cup. He became the first Cardinal golfer to win his first collegiate tournament since TIger Woods accomplished the feat 17 years ago.
Rodgers and the top-ranked Cardinal will join fellow Pac-12 members ARIZONA STATE, OREGON, OREGON STATE, USC and WASHINGTON in The Prestige at PGA West Invitational, La Quinta, Calif., October 9-11.
Also nominated for golfer of the month honors were Erik Oja, So., ARIZONA (Tied for 5th at William H. Tucker Intercollegiate with a score of even-par 216); Beau Schoolcraft, Jr., COLORADO (Tied for 1st at CU-Simpson Invitational with 11-under 205, including a school-record-tying 36-hole total of 12-under 132); Rak Cho, Fr., OREGON (Placed 2nd in leading Ducks to team title at Saint Mary's Invitational with a 7-under 209); Chris Williams, Jr., WASHINGTON (Earned his Washington record-tying fourth career college victory with a 3-under 69 to win the rain-shortened Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational).
