Cal's Murrey Named Finalist for Senior Award
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — CALIFORNIA outside hitter Tarah Murrey is one of 10 finalists for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for collegiate volleyball, the award's staff announced Wednesday.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The CLASS award, standing for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in sports to positively impact their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans can vote through November 21 on either the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award web site or the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
Murrey's bio and qualifications can be found here.
Lowe's will announce the Senior CLASS Award winner during the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, which will be played December 15 and 17 in San Antonio.
