Sofia Earns Bank of the West Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore defender Joe Sofia was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 19-31, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Dove Canyon, Calif., native played a key role in the Bruins' 1-0 victories over Washington and Oregon State. On Friday against the Huskies, Sofia scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute while also contributing to UCLA's stout defense that allowed no shots on goal. On Sunday, Sofia and the Bruins held Oregon State to three shots on goal. UCLA has shut out seven of its last 10 Pac-12 opponents, with Sofia starting and playing in every minute of those games.
This is Sofia's first weekly honor and UCLA's 44th all-time Player of the Week.
The Bruins are on the road this week, facing California on Friday, November 4 at 3:30 p.m. PT and Stanford on Sunday, November 6 at 1 p.m. PT.
