PAC-12 MEN'S SOCCER NOTES
No. 8/8 UCLA and San Diego State travel to face California and Stanford in the second to last week of Pac-12 play. The Bruins remain undefeated in the Conference at 7-0-0 and need one point over their last three matches to capture the Pac-12 title. UCLA has won six Conference championships, with the last being in 2009. Washington is in second place with 18 points and one game remaining. SDSU has 12 points for third in the standings with three games to play.
UCLA SO D Joe Sofia earned his first Bank of the West Player of the Week award after playing a key role in the Bruins' 1-0 victories over Washington and Oregon State. Sofia scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute against the Huskies while also contributing to UCLA's stout defense that allowed no shots on goal. On Sunday, Sofia and the Bruins held OSU to three shots on goal in the double-overtime win.
JR MF Fernando Monge scored the golden goal in the 102nd minute in UCLA's win over the Beavers. RS SR GK Brian Rowe earned his 11th victory and sixth shutout of the year on Senior Day.
Washington has won six of its last seven matches. The Huskies rebounded from a 1-0 loss at UCLA to beat San Diego State 3-0. SR MF Jacob Hustedt scored two goals while FR MF Charlie Ranahan recorded the first of his Husky career. SR F Brent Richards assisted on the two second-half goals. SO GK Spencer Richey got the shutout and tallied one save as UW limited the Aztecs to six shots.
San Diego State got its 10th win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Oregon State on Friday. The Aztecs have recorded back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 1991-92. RS SO MF John Pegg, SR D Daniel Steres and FR MF Tyler Smith each scored for SDSU. RS SO GK Blake Hylen had six saves and his fourth shutout of the season.
