Ogwumike Named AP Preseason All-American
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD senior forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike was one of five women's basketball players named to the Associated Press Preseason All-America team announced Tuesday.
Ogwumike, who is on the preseason team for the second straight year, joined Baylor's Brittney Griner, Notre Dame's Skylar Dig-gins, Miami's Shenise Johnson and Tennessee's Shekinna Stricklen. Ogwumike and Diggins each received 37 points while Griner was a unanimous selection.
Ogwumike was named to the AP All-America second team last season and earned her second selection to the State Farm Coaches' All-America team. She also received All-America nods from the Los Angeles Athletic Club and the USBWA in addition to All-Pac-10 first team honors.
Ogwumike led the Pac-10 with 17.5 points per game and a 58.6 shooting percentage in 2010-11. She averaged 23.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in postseason play as the Cardinal reached its fourth straight Final Four.
In a voting of the Pac-12 coaches, Stanford was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Conference title this season. The season begins for Pac-12 teams on Friday, November 11.
