Five Earn Academic All-District Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Five Pac-12 men's soccer players were named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 8 Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced November 4. OREGON STATE's Travis Anderson, STANFORD's Dersu Abolfathi, UCLA's Ryan Hollingshead and Chandler Hoffman and WASHINGTON's Brent Richards earned the academic nods and are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Anderson maintains a 3.96 GPA in exercise and sport science. The junior defender has played in all 17 of the Beavers' games this year, starting 13.
Abolfathi carries a 3.75 GPA in symbolic systems. The junior forward has started all 17 of the Cardinal's games in 2011 and tallied three goals.
Hollingshead, a junior midfielder, is a psychology major with a 3.59 GPA. He has two goals and three assists in 15 games this season.
Hoffman is a communication studies major with a 3.74 GPA. The junior forward leads the Pac-12 in several categories, including goals (14) and points (32).
Richards has a 3.73 GPA as an extended pre-major. The senior forward ranks second in the Conference with 10 goals and 25 points. Richards was named to the ESPN Academic All-America third team last season.
Anderson, Abolfathi, Hoffman and Richards were members of the Pac-10 All-Academic first team last season. Hollingshead was a second-team selection. The group of five, along with all other first-team honorees, will go on the national ballot to determine Academic All-America teams.
