Bank Of The West Weekly Volleyball Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Bank of the West Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week. CALIFORNIA's Tarah Murrey was voted the Offensive Player of the Week, while WASHINGTON's Jenna Orlandini and Krista Vansant were selected the Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, re-spectively. It is the final player of the week selection of the season with this week's honors reflecting performances for the week of Nov. 21-27.

It is the first time one team has swept the weekly awards. Weekly awards have been selected every week since the Con-ference began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. The offensive, defensive and freshman of the week honors are new for the 2011 campaign.

Senior outside hitter Tarah Murrey (El Cerrito, Calif.) led the No. 10-ranked Golden Bears to a 3-1 upset of No. 6 Stan-ford in the regular-season finale at Maples Pavilion. Murrey averaged 6.12 points per set, in large part due to the 5.75 kills and 0.25 blocks per set she averaged, as well. In addition, Murrey posted 2.25 digs per set in the upset victory over the Bears' rival. In total, she had 23 kills in 67 attempts with just four errors (.284). With the win, Cal sweeps the Cardinal in the regular season for only the third time in the history of the series.

Sophomore libero Jenna Orlandini (La Cañada, Calif.) and freshman outside hitter Krista Vansant (Redlands, Calif.) led the Huskies to a pair of victories over rival Washington State, including a five-set, comeback win in Pullman to close the regular season. Defensively, Orlandini had nine digs and a career-high four aces in the 3-0 win in Seattle. Her passing helped UW run their offense at a .506 clip. In the next match, she racked up 27 digs, while also helping Washington post a .340 hitting percentage.

Vansant was the most efficient hitter on the night in Seattle, going 14-for-19 with one error and posting a .684 hitting percentage. She also had a pair of aces and three digs. She followed up with 25 kills in 29 attempts in the five-setter at Washington State, hitting .388 for the match. She also added nine digs in the comeback victory. For the week, she av-eraged 4.88 kps, 1.50 dps and 5.12 pps, while posting a .471 hitting percentage.

Murrey earns Conference weekly honors for the second time in her career and the first time this season. It is the 32nd all-time selection for the Bears. Orlandini's selection is the first of her career and the 31st all-time for the Huskies. Van-sant is the Freshman of the Week for the third time this season.

Seven Pac-12 teams are headed to the NCAA Tournament beginning Thursday and Friday, Dec. 1 and 2, including Cal and Washington. The Bears play North Carolina in the first round of the tournament in Los Angeles. UW heads to Min-neapolis to face Western Michigan in the opening round.
