Stanford's N. Ogwumike: Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.— STANFORD's Nnemkadi Ogwumike was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Women's Bas-ketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 21-27, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Ogwumike aver-aged 28.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games last week.
A native of Cypress, Texas, senior forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike led the Cardinal on an East Coast swing which saw her record her second 30-point outing in just five games this season. Ogwumike opened the week with a 22-point, eight-rebound performance in a 68-58 loss at No. 2 Connecticut. She was 9-for-17 from the floor. She helped the Cardinal bounce back from the setback, posting 34 points and 13 rebounds in the 80-64 win at Xavier. She made 14-of-23 field goal attempts against the Musketeers and was nearly flawless from the free throw line, going 6-for-7. For the week, Og-wumike shot 57.5 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe.
It is Ogwumike's fifth-career player of the week honor and Stanford's 79th all-time.
The fifth-ranked Cardinal takes on a pair of in-state foes, hosting UC Davis on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and traveling to Fresno State on Sunday, Dec. 4.
