November Swimmers of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA senior Cory Chitwood and USC senior Katinka Hosszu have been named Pac-12 Swimmers of the Month for November, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Chitwood is already off to a fast start this season despite missing the first two meets with an injury. Chitwood posted the fastest times in the country in the 200 IM (1:41.92) and 400 medley relay (3:06.98) on the first day of the Texas Invitational. In a dual meet win over USC, Chitwood was first in the 200 back (1:42.79) and 400 IM (3:50.96) while placing second in the 200 med-ley relay (1:28.18) and 100 back (47.82). He also won the 200 back (1:48.31) in Arizona's victory over Wisconsin.
Hosszu got the Trojans off to a 4-0 start with dual meet wins over Washington State (twice), Arizona and Arizona State. She won eight races, posting NCAA 'B' cut times in all but one of those races. Against the Cougars, Hosszu captured the 400 IM (4:12.23), 100 free (52.55) and 200 fly (1:57.12). She also won three events at Arizona, taking the 200 free (1:46.15), 200 back (1:57.76) and 400 IM (4:12.97). Hosszu won the 200 free (1:46.83) and 200 breast (2:13.32) against the Sun Devils.
This is Chitwood's third Swimmer of the Month award and Arizona's fifth all-time. On the women's side, this is Hosszu's fourth career monthly award and the eighth for the Trojans.
