Eight Named Preseason All-Americans
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Eight Pac-12 baseball players have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Team, the NCBWA announced Wednesday.
STANFORD junior third baseman Stephen Piscotty and OREGON STATE junior relief pitcher Tony Bryant are first-team selections. Piscotty finished the 2011 season with the second-highest batting average in the conference (.364) and was an All-Conference first-team selection. Bryant led the league in saves last season with 12, and was also an All-Conference first-team honoree.
CALIFORNIA junior second baseman Tony Renda and ARIZONA junior shortstop Alex Mejia are second-team honorees. Renda led the conference in hits for the 2011 season with 88, and is a two-time All-Conference selection. Mejia was a member of the 2011 All-Conference first team.
ARIZONA STATE garnered three third-team selections: junior first baseman Joey DiMichele, junior shortstop Deven Marrero and junior pitcher Brady Rodgers, in addition to California's Justin Jones. DiMichele was a 2011 ABCA/Rawlings All-America first-team selection, a Baseball America All-America third-team honoree and All-Conference first-team selection. Marrero was a 2011 Capital One Academic All-District second-team selection and All-Conference first-team selection. Rodgers and Jones were both 2011 All-Conference honorable mentions.
