This Year In Pac-12 Women's Volleyball

Download Complete Release

Upsetting three higher-seeded teams along the way, UCLA captured the Pac-12's 14th all-time NCAA women's volleyball national championship, defeating Illinois, 3-1, in San Antonio. The championship crown is UCLA's fourth in women's volleyball and the athletic department's 108th across all sports. No other athletic program in the country has more national championships than the Bruins and no other conference in the country has more women's volleyball titles.

Boasting the most storied history in the 31 years of the NCAA Tournament, the Pac-12 had two teams in the national semifinals, with USC advancing that far for the second-straight year. It was the 14th time that at least two Conference teams have played in the semifinals and the 28th time at least one league team has participated.

UCLA's appearance in the national championship match was the 23rd instance that at least one Conference team had played in the final. It was the second-straight year a Pac-12 team was playing in the national championship match and the 10th time in the last 11 years.

Seven Pac-12 teams earned NCAA Tournament bids this year and three were seeded in the top 16 ... USC claimed the Pac-12's automatic bid after winning the first-ever Pac-12 Championship title ... The Conference has sent at least six teams to the NCAA Tournament for 12-consecutive years ... Six Pac-12 teams were ranked in the final AVCA National Coaches Poll ... Eight Pac-12 players earned All-American honors ... USC's Alex Jupiter was named the AVCA National Player of the Year and UCLA's Mike Sealy was the National Coach of the Year.

With UCLA's win, it is the third national championship Pac-12 teams have captured so far this season (women's soccer - Stanford and men's water polo - USC). Pac-12 teams have won 445 NCAA team titles all time, by far the most of any league in the country.
