UW's Ross Named Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — WASHINGTON guard Terrence Ross has been named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
The sophomore helped his team to a sweep of in-state opponents last week, contributing to a 91-83 win over Seattle University on Tuesday and a 75-65 win over Washington State on Sunday. Against Seattle U, the Portland, Ore., native scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, got six rebounds and hit both of his 3-point attempts in 25 minutes on the floor.
On Sunday, Ross compensated for the absence of C.J. Wilcox, the team's second-leading scorer, by achieving career highs in points (30) and rebounds (14). Both totals were the highest by any Husky this season. Ross dropped 26 points in the second half on 8-for-12 shooting from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. He also hit all five of his free throws in the second half.
Over two games, Ross averaged 21.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.0 spg, 1.5 apg and 1.0 bpg.
This is Ross's first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the 44th all-time selection for Washington. This selection is the third for the Huskies this season, with C.J. Wilcox taking the honors on Nov. 14 and Tony Wroten getting the nod on Jan. 2, 2012.
Washington hosts Cal on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. PT and Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. PT.
Also Nominated: Solomon Hill, ARIZ; Justin Cobbs, CAL; Devoe Joseph, ORE; Josh Huestis, STAN; Travis Wear, UCLA.
