Three Named Academic All-District
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Three Pac-12 women's basketball players were named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Thursday. OREGON senior forward Amanda Johnson, STANFORD sophomore forward Chiney Ogwumike and UTAH redshirt sophomore forward Taryn Wicijowski were all named to the team.
This is the third consecutive year that Johnson has received All-District honors. A graduate student earning a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and Human Services with a 4.16 grade point average, Johnson was named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team last season. She recently returned to action after missing 11 games with a fractured thumb. Johnson is averaging 19.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Ogwumike is an undeclared major with a 3.46 grade point average. She claimed her third straight Pac-12 Player of the Week award after recording career highs of 27 points and 18 rebounds against California. Ogwumike is averaging 15.6 points and 10.6 rebounds this season.
Wicijowski carries a 3.91 grade point average as a double major in biology and psychology with a minor in chemistry. After missing last season with a torn ACL, Wicijowski currently ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with 8.4 rebounds per game to go with her 12.2 points.
First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
