January Swimmers of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD freshman David Nolan and CALIFORNIA senior Liv Jensen have been named Pac-12 Swimmers of the Month for January, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Nolan won five of six events individual events against Pacific, Arizona State and Arizona in January. He won the 50 free (20.26) and 100 fly (48.04) in non-conference action against Pacific. In the dual meet win over the Sun Devils, Nolan captured the 50 free (21.06), 200 breast (1:59.35) and swam on the victorious 400 medley relay team (3:17.64). In the loss to top-ranked Arizona, Nolan won the 200 free (1:35.94) and helped Stanford set a pool record in the 200 free relay (1:19.26). He also finished second in the 200 back (1:43.78).
One of the top sprinters in the nation, Jensen excelled in the freestyle in four meets to help the Golden Bears stay unbeaten in dual meets and move into the No. 1 ranking in the latest Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. Cal defeated Arizona, ASU, USC and UCLA last month. Jensen won the 50 free in all four meets, three of four 100 free races and split two 200 frees. She also led the Bears to victories in all six relays she swam in. Her 49.51 in the 100 free was a UCLA pool record.
This is Nolan's first Swimmer of the Month award and Stanford's 11th all-time. On the women's side, this is Jensen's first career monthly award and the eighth for the Bears.
