PAC-12 SOFTBALL NOTES

In the final week before Pac-12 Conference play opens, the league holds steady with seven teams in both national polls. California continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the ESPN.com/USA Today rankings.

Arizona State SR SS Katelyn Boyd earned her second consecutive Pac-12 Player of the Week honor while Cal JR P Jolene Henderson received her sixth career Pitcher of the Week award. Boyd moved up to fifth all-time at ASU with 254 hits. Henderson had a 0.00 ERA in three wins last week.

The Pac-12 will face several top-25 teams this week. Oregon starts off the action by hosting No. 1/2 Alabama on Tuesday. Arizona, Arizona State and Washington travel to the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. Cal is off to Honolulu for the Hawai'i Spring Fling.

Arizona, which had its series with Baylor rained out over the weekend, leads the nation with a .988 fielding percentage.

Arizona State and Cal have an NCAA-best .375 batting average. Cal SR UTIL Valerie Arioto and Utah SR INF Whitney Holm are both hitting .500 to rank fifth in the country.

Oregon JR OF Samantha Pappas was named MVP of the Bayer CropScience Tournament after hitting .667 with eight hits, eight RBI and four runs. JR P Jessica Moore has 542 strikeouts, 42 shy of the school record.

At 21-7, Oregon State has already exceeded its total number of wins from last year (19). It is the Beavers' best record before Conference play since the 2006 team started 27-2. SR DP/P Paige Hall hit .438 last weekend and owns a 2.10 ERA this season.

Stanford JR P Teagan Gerhart leads the NCAA with 20 victories this season. Gerhart has a 20-1 record and 1.35 ERA heading into Pac-12 play next week.

UCLA FR P/OF Ally Carda posted a 3-0 record with a 0.82 ERA and 20 strikeouts at the Long Beach State Invitational. Carda is holding opponents to a team-low .193 batting average.

Utah SR P Generra Nielson threw the second no-hitter of her career and the 25th in Ute program history in a 2-1 win over Colgate on Monday. Nielson did not allow an earned run or issue a walk and tied her career high with 16 strikeouts.

Washington SO 1B Hooch Fagaly had her biggest weekend after returning from an ACL injury last season. She hit .778 at the Husky Softball Classic with a 1.143 slugging percentage, four runs, five hits and seven RBI.
