WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pac-12 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 16-22, 2012:

Men's Track Athlete of the Week: STEPHEN SAMBU, ARIZONA (Sr., Kaptagat, Kenya). Sambu won the men's 10K invitational at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., with a time of 28:06.16 over the weekend. His time is the second-best of his career and also the second-best time in school history. The mark is also the fastest collegiate time in the country this season and the second-best in the world. It is the second time this season Sambu has been voted the Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week: KATIE FLOOD, WASHINGTON (So., Des Moines, Iowa). Flood won the 1,500-meters invitational section at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Friday, posting the fourth-fastest time so far in the world this season and the fastest by an American outdoors this year. The 2011 Pac-12 Cross Country Champion and NCAA Distance Medley Relay Champion cut seven seconds off her personal best, running 4:11.66, the seventh-fastest time in Pac-12 history and third-fastest in UW history. She now leads the NCAA at that distance. Flood headed into the final lap battling three runners, but over the final 100-meters pulled away to win by more than a second.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week: CHRIS BENARD, ARIZONA STATE (Sr., Corona, Calif.). Chris Benard broke the Arizona State record in the triple jump on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays with a leap of 16.74m (54-11.25) to take second in the Elite section of the event in Walnut, Calif. The jump downed Deon Mayfield's 30-year-old record in the event of 16.72m (64-10.50) and placed Benard in the No. 1 spot in the nation in 2012, as well. Additionally, the mark placed Benard tied for ninth on the Pac-12's all-time descending order list in the event and is the best jump in the Conference since USC's Joseph Kapek jumped 17.12m (56-02.00) in 2003. With the jump, Benard joined Kapek as just the second jumper in the Pac-12 to jump over 54 feet, 10 inches in the past 24 years.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: ALYSSA HASSLEN, ARIZONA (Jr., Sheridan, Ore.). Hasslen competed in the women's invitational elite shot put at the Mt. SAC Relays and earned a second-place finish.
