Cal's Hagy Named Golfer of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Brandon Hagy of CALIFORNIA has been named the Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Month for April, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Hagy, a sophomore from Westlake Village, Calif., opened the month of April with a tie for third at the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational with a 6-under 207 (67-67-70) for the best finish of his career to lead the Golden Bears to their fourth team title of the year. He then capped off the month with a tie for fifth at the Pac-12 Championships with an 8-under 280 (73-73-66-68) in leading the Golden Bears to their record fifth team title of the year.
However, it was Hagy's heroics down the stretch of the Pac-12 Championships that led to the Golden Bears capturing their first-ever Pac-12 title. Playing in the final group of the day, Hagy drained a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole of the fourth and final round to force a playoff with Oregon. On the second hole of the playoff, he was the only player to post a birdie, giving Cal its first title in the 53-year history of the Championship.
Hagy has four top-8 finishes in six spring events and has posted a 71.7 stroke average for the season.
Also nominated for golfer of the month honors were Erika Oja, So., ARIZONA; Jason Burstyn, Jr., COLORADO; Andrew Yun, Jr., STANFORD; Patrick Cantlay, So., UCLA; Sam Smith, Jr., USC; Gentry Hicks, Fr., UTAH; Chris Williams, Jr., WASHINGTON.
