LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - The Washington men and California women defended their Conference titles at the 2012 Pac-12 Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Washington continued its undefeated season by hoisting the team trophy for the third year in a row, while the Golden Bears captured the league crown for the fifth straight year. Washington swept the men's races for the second time in three years.

Washington started the regatta with a win in the men's freshman/novice eight. The Huskies led from start to finish, crossing the line in 5:44.3. Cal finished second in 5:47.8, and Oregon State rounded out the top three in 6:11.7.

The Cal women opened the morning by capturing the novice eight in 6:47.0. The Golden Bears battled UCLA through the 1,000-meter mark before Cal pulled away along the shoreline to win by two seconds. The Bruins won the silver medal in 6:49.0, and Washington State placed third in 6:55.7.

Washington won the men's varsity four with nine seconds over Cal. The Husky men captured their second gold of the day in 6:31.5. The Bears hung close through 1,000 meters before Washington lengthened its lead. Cal finished in 6:40.6 while Oregon State was third in 6:57.3.

In the women's varsity four, Cal maintained an open-water lead over the rest of the field from the beginning, winning in 7:13.9. After UCLA and Stanford battled for second place through the halfway mark, it was Washington who moved into silver medal position with 500 meters to go. The Huskies finished second in 7:20.8 and UCLA took third in 7:23.4.

Washington continued its winning ways with another open-water victory, this time in the men's second varsity eight. The Huskies crossed the line in 5:48.6, ahead of Cal, who captured another silver medal in 5:54.1. The Stanford men captured their first medal of the day, taking third in 6:04.1.

Cal entered the women's second varsity eight seeded second behind UCLA, but the Bears jumped ahead from the start. The fight for second place came down to a photo finish between Stanford and UCLA. The Bruins made a furious sprint, but Stanford held them off by a bow ball, 6:42.7 to 6:43.0.

Washington completed its sweep with a dominant win in the men's varsity eight, winning in 5:43.5. Cal had a strong start, but the Huskies pulled away to win easily. The Bears were second in 5:51.5 with Stanford taking third in 5:57.7.

In the women's finale, Cal upended USC in the varsity eight to claim its fourth gold in 6:30.9. The Trojans, who entered the Pac-12 Championships with a perfect record in the top boat, just edged Washington for second place, 6:32.7 to 6:32.8.
