Vasilieva Preparing For Singles Championships

With the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship in Georgia coming up later this week, Liudmila Vasilieva looks to continue her strong season.
Vasilieva, a junior at Washington State University, said she feels like a great fall season prepared her for the spring season. It is those early matches she finds very important.
"You get experience and find something you should work on," Vasilieva said.
Playing well during the fall, Vasilieva said, gave her a lot of confidence for the spring. If a 10-win and one-loss record for the fall shows how prepared and confident she was, then people should be on the lookout.
But as good as an individual player Vasilieva is, she is an even better teammate. A season goal of Vasilieva and her teammates was to make the NCAA Tournament—a feat the team had never accomplished since she has been there. The Cougars succeeded.
"I think the NCAA's is where you need to show yourself," Vasilieva said.
The team had a good showing, making it to the second round of the tournament before falling to last year's champion and No. 2-ranked University of Florida.
"I'm really proud of the team," Vasilieva said. "The tournament was our main goal this year and I am proud to be a part of that experience."
This week is an opportunity for another exciting experience as an individual. Vasilieva said in order to be successful this week, all she has to do is trust her training to maintain the level she is at.
"It's not a time to go run sprints," she jokes.
While playing as much tennis as possible before her individual matches this week, Vasilieva credited her coaches for helping her develop.
"My coaches have helped me to get me to the level I am at," she said.
All this season's hard work, conditioning and training has paid off so far. It is easy to tell she loves her teammates and coaches. But in the end, Liudmila Vasilieva does it all because she loves the game of tennis.
That is all anyone can ask.
