Eleven from Pac-12 Named All-Americans
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Eleven Pac-12 baseball players have been named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American team, as released by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Thursday.
STANFORD junior RHP Mark Appel and ARIZONA junior shortstop Alex Mejia were first-team selections. Appel is a 2012 all-conference selection and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. Mejia is the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Arizona junior RHP Kurt Heyer, OREGON senior RHP Alex Keudell, ARIZONA STATE junior RHP Brady Rodgers and fellow Sun Devil, sophomore RHP Trevor Williams, have been named to the second team. Keudell is the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, while Heyer, Rodgers and Williams join him on the all-conference team. Heyer and Keudell are also semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award.
The following are third-team honorees: UCLA junior RHP Scott Griggs, Arizona junior third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean, CALIFORNIA junior second baseman Tony Renda, ASU senior first baseman Abe Ruiz and Oregon sophomore RHP Jimmie Sherfy. Griggs, Mejias-Brean, Renda and Sherfy are all-conference selections, while Ruiz received an honorable mention.
