Washington swept all four semis on Friday, handling the 75-minute rain delay and a gamut of fast competition with aplomb to win by open water in each event. Oh-So-Perfect Huskies Clinch 15th National Championship
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - This was their moment. All season long, the training the Huskies exact each morning on Lake Washington has been directed toward this race.
And boy, did they ever deliver.
Washington went 5 for 5 in the Grand Finals, dominating the 110th IRA Championships on Saturday with a performance for the ages on the Cooper River. It secured a perfect season for the men's crew program, along with the first repeat title for Washington in more than 70 years. This National Championship was the fourth in six years for the Huskies, and the 15th overall for the program.
Cal Varsity Eight Finishes Fourth at IRA Championships
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Fourth-ranked California men's crew placed fourth in the varsity eight grand final at the IRA National Championships Saturday at Copper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The best finishes of the day for the Golden Bears were the freshman eight and the varsity four boats each finishing in second in their grand finals. The open four took third.
Stanford II Eight Takes Sixth Nationally At IRAs
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Stanford's men's II Eight finished sixth in the Grand Final to highlight the Cardinal effort at the IRA Championships Saturday on the Cooper River.
It was the highest national finish in the Cardinal II Eight's history.
The I Eight and Frosh Eight each competed in their class' Third Final, with each boat taking second in the race, finishing 14th overall.
