Pac-12 Networks Men's Soccer TV Schedule
UCLA's Victor Munoz
The Pac-12 Networks announced today their slate of the 2012 men's soccer matchups that will feature 28 live contests on the networks' first season of televised action. The schedule kicks off with a doubleheader Friday, August 24 with Gonzaga at Washington at 5:00 PM PT (8:00 PM ET), followed by the 2011 Pac-12 Conference Champion UCLA hosting the University of New Mexico at 7:00 PM PT (10:00 PM ET).
"We are thrilled about the way our Fall schedule is coming together and men's soccer is a big part of that," said Pac-12 Enterprises President Gary Stevenson. "Traditionally, the Pac-12 is highly competitive from top to bottom in men's soccer and produces contenders for the College Cup every year. The fact that the race for the Pac-12 title is up for grabs and will play out on the Pac-12 Networks is very exciting."
The schedule features three teams from NCAA programs finishing in the top 25 national rankings last season including Conference champion UCLA (No. 3), who advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 NCAA College Cup. The 2012 Bruins roster includes key returning players Ryan Hollingshead, Matt Wiet and Victor Chavez, as well as a rookie class that boasts five players named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Top 100 list and five with national team experience.
The first nine telecasts highlight key nonconference matchups including 2011 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Seth Caspile and the Cal Bears hosting Central Florida September 7 at 4:30 PM PT. In addition, new Stanford head coach Jeremy Gunn makes his Pac-12 coaching debut as the Cardinal face Loyola Marymount September 21 at 4:00 PM PT. Gunn brings a wealth of experience to Stanford following five years at the helm of a University of Charlotte program that made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a spot in the national championship match last season versus North Carolina.
The Pac-12 Networks launch August 15 and will consist of one national and six regional networks devoted solely to the Pac-12. In addition to the hundreds of live televised Pac-12 sporting events, Pac-12 Networks subscribers will have access to their carrier's TV Everywhere platform, providing access to all Pac-12 Networks programming on any device through their broadband service.
