PAC-12 SOFTBALL NOTES

California, Arizona State and Oregon represented the Pac-12 at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Cal and ASU tied for third, each finishing with a 2-2 record. Oregon tied for fifth, going 1-2 in Oklahoma City. It was the ninth time the Pac-12 had sent three teams to the WCWS. At least one Pac-12 team has played in every WCWS since the NCAA began sponsoring the softball championship in 1982.

ASU FR C Amber Freeman and Oregon SR OF Samantha Pappas and JR C Alexa Peterson were named to the 2012 WCWS All-Tournament Team.

Eight of the Pac-12's nine teams made the NCAA Tournament this year, with five advancing to the Super Regionals (Arizona, ASU, Cal, Oregon and Washington).

The Pac-12 finished the season with eight teams ranked in the final USA Today/NFCA poll and seven in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. WCWS participants Cal, Arizona State and Oregon ranked 3-4-5.

The Pac-12 landed 31 on the NFCA All-Region teams this season, with 13 going on to be named NFCA All-Americans.

Four ASU players were named Capital One Academic All-Americans.
Hillary Bach, Katelyn Boyd and Bailey Wigness earned first team honors while Annie Lockwood was named to the second team.

Katelyn Boyd was named the 2012 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball, presented by Toyo Tires. Boyd, a two-time Academic All-American, carried a 3.74 GPA in Family and Human Development. The 2012 Pac-12 Batting Champion, Boyd finished her ASU career atop the record books in RBI (236) and doubles (60). Those numbers rank 10th and seventh, respectively, on the Pac-12 career lists.

Cal RS SR P/1B Valerie Arioto, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, won the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Arioto completed her degree in American Studies in December. She has been heavily involved in numerous community service activities, including the team's adoption of Bebe through the Friends of Jaclyn, an organization that improves the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families.

Arioto and Boyd were two of the top-three finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

In the record books... Stanford SR SS Ashley Hansen ranks second in doubles (81) and is tied for fifth in triples (18) in the Pac-12 career records. Cal SR OF Jamia Reid leaves as the Conference's all-time stolen bases leader with 177, breaking former Bruin Natasha Watley's record of 158 from 2000-03. Arioto ranks second all-time in walks with 264 behind former Cal great Veronica Nelson (2000-03), who still holds the NCAA record with 395.
