Beitashour Among 2012 MLS All-Stars
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Former Pac-12 men's soccer player Steven Beitashour is among the 11 MLS All-Stars participating in the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game, which will be played tonight. The All-Stars face Chelsea at PPL Park in Philadelphia at 5:30 p.m. PT/8:30 pm ET.
Beitashour, a native of San Jose, Calif., was a defender for the San Diego State University men's soccer team from 2005-08. He appeared in 57 games in his career as an Aztec, recording eight assists. He was drafted 30th in the second round of the 2010 MLS Super Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes and is in his third professional year.
With six assists in 18 games this season, Beitashour is tied for fourth-best in the MLS. He has helped lead the Earthquakes to the league-best record (13-5-4) through July 25. In the 2011 season, he led the Earthquakes with seven assists while appearing in 19 games, but was forced to sit out multiple games due to a leg injury.
The All-Star roster is composed of eleven players voted upon by fans, two picks were from MLS Commissioner Don Garber and a final five players were chosen by the All-Star head coach Ben Olsen to complete the 18-man gameday roster. Beitashour was among the first eleven chosen by fans.
The game will be aired on ESPN2 as well as TeleFutura.
