OSU's Richardson and Prudhomme named Pac-12 women's soccer players of the week
By the Pac-12 Conference
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - A pair of Beavers, forward Jenna Richardson and goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme, were named Pac-12 Women's Soccer Players of the Week for the week of September 17-23.
Richardson, a junior from Surrey, B.C., scored two goals and fired six shots in a 2-0 win over Utah on Friday to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. She scored the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute and added an insurance goal in the 75th minute to propel Oregon State to a win in its Pac-12 opener. Richardson leads the Beavers with four goals this season, despite missing the first four games while participating in the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Japan. Her two-goal performance on Friday gives her 21 career goals and moves her in to a tie for sixth place on OSU's all-time scoring list.
Prudhomme, a freshman from Aliso Viejo, Calif., posted her third clean sheet of the season, collecting nine saves on 16 total shots to take home Defensive Player of the Week accolades. She owns a perfect 4-0-0 record in net this season and has notched 31 saves-- a total that ranks fifth in the Conference despite having played in three fewer games than any other goalkeeper in the top-10-- giving her an average of 7.75 saves per match. She has allowed just one goal and owns a .750 shutout percentage.
This is the second weekly honor for both players, who are Oregon State's 13th and 14th all-time Player of the Week recipients-- in no particular order. Richardson was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Oct. 26, 2010. For Prudhomme, this is her second
nod this season, as she was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4.
Oregon State returns to action on Thursday, as they take on No. 2 Stanford in a Pac-12 Networks televised game. The Beavers, who have compiled a 9-1-0 record, are off to the best start in program history.
