By the Pac-12 Conference

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Oct. 8-15. OREGON's Alaina Bergsma was named the Offensive Player of the Week. STANFORD's Kyle Gilbert was voted the Conference's Defensive Player of the week, while teammate Inky Ajanaku was selected the Freshman of the Week.

Redshirt senior outside hitter Alaina Bergsma (Chandler, Ariz.) helped lead the Ducks to a 3-1 upset of the nation's last unbeaten team in No. 2 Washington. Bergsma led the team with 23 kills. She is the first player this season to log more than 15 kills and top .300 against the Huskies (.348). In the match against Washington State, Bergsma led the team in blocks with four to help the Ducks beats WSU for the 13th-straight time. Bergsma had a .435 hitting percentage on the night, the seventh time she had an above .400 mark this season. On the year, Bergsma leads the team in kills (4.3 kps), aces (0.26 aps) and points (5.18 pps).

Sophomore libero Kyle Gilbert (Encinitas, Calif.) anchored the Stanford defense in a sweep of No. 6 USC and a five-set victory over No. 7 UCLA. In the two matches, Gilbert averaged 5.88 digs per set. With a match-high 22 digs, Gilbert helped the Cardinal hold USC to its lowest hitting percentage of the season (.085). In the match against the Bruins, Gilbert led the team again with a career-high 25 digs on the night, her seventh 20-plus dig match of the season. The Cardinal was able to hold UCLA to just a .215 attack percentage. Gilbert is averaging 3.96 digs per set on the season and 4.58 digs per set in Pac-12 play.

Freshman middle blocker Inky Ajanaku (Tulsa, Okla.) averaged a team-best 3.62 kills, 4.44 points and 1.62 blocks per set while hitting .458 against the Trojans and Bruins. She had a then-career high 12 kills and six blocks for a team-high .529 attack percentage in the three-set win against USC. Ajanaku then topped her performance when she recorded a career high 17 kills and seven blocks with a .419 hitting percentage in the five-set thriller against the seventh-ranked Bruins.

The Cardinal has now won 14 matches in a row and has sole possession of first place in the Conference with an 8-0 record and has defeated three top-10 teams in its last four matches.

It is Bergsma's second-career offensive player of the week honor, the second time this season she has earned the nod. With the selection this week Oregon now has 23 weekly honors all-time. It is Gilbert's first-career weekly honor and Stanford's 81st weekly honor all-time. Ajanaku's freshman of the week selection is the third for the Cardinal.

Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Conference began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the second year the Pac-12 has announced an offensive, defensive and rookie honoree.

Both Oregon and Stanford hit the road this week. The Cardinal will be challenged when they travel to UW on Friday, Oct. 19 and then WSU Sunday, Oct 21, both games will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Meanwhile, the Ducks travel south to face Arizona on Friday and Arizona State on Saturday. The match between the Ducks and the Wildcats will be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Networks.
