SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., October 19, 2012 — Pac-12 Networks first season of live women's basketball telecasts is just around the corner and packed with a number of exciting matchups featuring some of the nation's top players and programs. Pac-12 Networks 2012 women's basketball live televised schedule features 61 games, including the first three rounds of the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament, March 7-9 from Seattle, WA.
For the first time in conference history, every Pac-12 women's tournament game will be on television. The networks' slate of live games tips off Friday, November 23 with a nationally-televised doubleheader beginning with 2012 NCAA runner-up Notre Dame vs. UCLA at Noon PT, followed by Nebraska visiting USC at 2:00 PM PT. Prior to the season tip, host Ashley Adamson is joined by Rosalyn Gold-Onwude and Mary Murphy, previewing all the key players and storylines headed into the season on the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Season Preview Monday, November 5 at 7:00 PM PT.
"The Pac-12 has some of the best teams and players in women's basketball year after year," said Lydia Murphy-Stephans, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Pac-12 Networks. "With the new Pac-12 Networks, we'll be televising 61 regular and post season games so fans can watch their favorite players and teams throughout the season."
As part of its season-long coverage, Pac-12 Networks has assembled a talented group of women's basketball analysts that includes former Cardinal Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, UCLA standout Ann Meyers-Drysdale, Tammy Blackburn and Mary Murphy while Krista Blunk, Anne Marie Anderson, Ann Schatz and Jim Watson make up the play-by-play team.
The Networks' on-air broadcast team will be in attendance Monday, October 22 for Pac-12 Women's Basketball Media Day, which will take place at the new Pac-12 Studios in San Francisco, joining all 12 head coaches, select student-athletes and media to officially kick off the season.
"It gives us great pleasure to host the tip off of the women's basketball campaign at the Pac-12 Studios. It's an ideal opportunity for us to introduce our announce team while showcasing the network's state-of-the facility which was designed to give the conference teams broad exposure on all platforms," Murphy-Stephans added.
2012 looks to be another strong year for Pac-12 women's hoops and Pac-12 Networks will be the center of it all with several exciting matchups, beginning with a four-game nonconference slate that in addition to Notre Dame-UCLA and Nebraska-USC, features the Duke Blue Devils vs. USC Saturday, December 22 at Noon PT and UConn vs. Oregon at Noon PT on New Year's Eve.
As the conference's lone 2012 Final Four participant who also claimed the Pac-12 regular season and tournament championship last season, the Stanford Cardinal returns as the team to beat this season. In their quest to extend their conference win streak to 78 games, Stanford will make 13 appearances on the Pac-12 Networks televised schedule including a primetime rematch of the 2012 Pac-12 Tournament Championship game with Cal January 8 at 7:00 PM PT. Highlighted as one of 12 games to watch this season by Pac-12 Digital, the Bears were the last conference team to beat Stanford on January 18, 2009 and forced the Cardinal to overtime in Palo Alto last season.
Each Pac-12 team makes at least five regular season appearances on the Networks television schedule that includes 11 of the 12 traditional rivalry games with both meetings between Arizona-Arizona State, Oregon-Oregon State, UCLA-USC, Washington-Washington State and Colorado-Utah. Additionally, women's basketball becomes the first sport program to have postseason games televised live on Pac-12 Networks with the first three rounds of the 2013 Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament from its new home in Seattle, WA March 7-9.
