2012-13 Pac-12 men's basketball: A season of dizzying possibilities
I woke today to the glorious exhilaration of a new morning -- the dawn of the Pac-12 basketball season. And who could ever ask for more out of life.
It was 42 years ago when I got my first chance and choice in life to be a part of something truly special. Things have never been quite the same since.
The anxious unknown way back when was quickly supplanted by the dizzying possibilities of learning and doing wonderful things as a team under the tutelage of a master teacher and with the raucous and devoted support of an entire community.
Today, so many extremely talented young adults in the Pac-12 are just now beginning to live and chase their own dreams; experiencing the same sense of anticipation, enthusiasm and excitement that the start of a fresh season always brings.
We’ve got a chance!!! And what more do you need??? So much hope, so many team goals and expectations, the unparalleled opportunity to start climbing the mountain -- together.
The Pac-12 is totally jammed with so much incredible talent. Great coaches abound. The race for the conference title is totally up for grabs, just as it has been in each of the last five years.
Arizona and UCLA, with dynamic recruiting classes and returning veterans, may start the season as the favorites, but you’ll have a hard time convincing Lorenzo Romar and his high-flying Washington Huskies that they won’t be right in the thick of everything. Or that Johnny Dawkins hasn’t assembled the rich vein of talent and depth at Stanford to make a run at it. Or that Craig Robinson’s players don’t believe that their experience, toughness and talent will put the Beavers in the conversation. Or that Tad Boyle’s team in Colorado won’t carry on and over from last year’s momentous postseason run.
With depth far and wide, the Pac-12 will be as competitive as it has been in years. This year’s crown will undoubtedly come down to the final days of the season. Every game, every possession and every second will count!!!!
As a charter member of our Pac-12 Networks team, I’m the luckiest guy on earth to be able to share it with you. The remarkable and passionate stories from each of our campuses will be endless as these poised and polished young men chase it all down.
We will bring these stories to you throughout the season as we televise 142 regular-season games and eight Pac-12 tournament games. We will have at least 12 games from every school and more than 20 in some cases. In all, 70 percent of the Pac-12 home schedule will be on our Networks, including the season openers for 11 of the 12 schools.
The coverage starts this Friday, Nov. 9; and we will deliver 11 games throughout the weekend. We’ll keep that pace all the way into March when the Madness reaches a fevered pitch.
What a difference a year makes. Last season more than 90 Pac-12 games were NOT TELEVISED -- unfathomable, unconscionable, unacceptable!!!! The Pac-12 Networks were created to rectify this travesty. And now -- today -- we are ready to deliver all of the amazing performances, the creative genius, the discipline, the sacrifice, the substance, the stories and the vision to fans throughout the universe.
Our Pac-12 student-athletes on each campus have earned the kind of recognition, exposure and coverage that we intend to provide, and that the clamoring fans of pure brilliance deserve to witness. One of the great lessons from sport is that you must quickly figure things out and then execute your plan and get the job done. So when you’re not in the library or church, make sure that you do everything possible to get the Pac-12 Networks as a mainstay in your educational and entertainment pack. You don’t want to miss a beat or bounce here.
As a proud and loyal alum and fan of the Pac-12 Conference, I’m thrilled, privileged, honored and humbled to have another chance to be a part of the new special team in my life that is being assembled as part of the new Pac-12 Networks.
The Pac-12 Networks brings together all that I live for -- education, sports, teamwork, business, technology, entertainment and the chance to help others build their lives.
Our great Commissioner, Larry Scott, is a vibrant, dynamic, visionary leader who stands alone at the top of our world. He is a huge reason why I am here. I make my choices in life based on purpose and people -- and that is why I am so excited about what we have at the Pac-12 Networks.
Pride and loyalty are the driving emotions in my life, and what could be better than what we have here.
The West is The Best.
Tradition. Environment. Demographics: We have it all!!
Let’s go to college!!! Let’s play ball!!! Let’s chase our dreams!!! Here we go!!!
