UCLA and Washington make NCAA Tournament

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA and WASHINGTON were selected to the field of 48 for the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, the NCAA announced Monday. Both teams will compete for the opportunity to play in the 2012 NCAA Men's College Cup, to be held December 7 and 9 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
The 2012 Pac-12 Champion and sixth-seeded Bruins (13-2-3) make their 30th straight and 40th all-time appearance in the Tournament, the second most in NCAA history. UCLA received a first-round bye and hosts the winner of the San Diego-Cal State Northridge game in the second round on November 18, at 5 p.m. PT at Drake Stadium. The Bruins have been crowned the NCAA Champion four times - 1985, 1990, 1997 and 2002- and have advanced to the College Cup 13 times.
The Huskies make their 19th appearance in the Tournament and their first since 2007. In the first round of the tournament Washington will host Air Force on November 15, at 7 p.m. PT at Husky Soccer Stadium. After losing just one game in Conference play this season Washington finished the season with a 12-4-3 record and was the runner-up in the Pac-12 Conference. The Huskies are 8-19 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, but hold a 6-6 record when playing on their home turf.
First-, second- and third-round matches are played on campus sites with two teams competing at each site. These rounds will be held on November 15th, 18th and 25th, respectively. The quarterfinals will be held at four campus sites on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 or 2. Each quarterfinal winner will advance to semifinal action of the 2012 NCAA Men's College Cup in Hoover, Ala. on Dec. 7 at 5 or 7:30 p.m. ET. The national championship match of the NCAA Men's College Cup will be played 2 p.m. ET, Dec. 9.
