Six named to AFCA Coaches' All-America team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.— Six Pac-12 football players were named to the 2012 AFCA FBS Coaches' All-America Team, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced Wednesday. USC sophomore wide receiver Marqise Lee, Stanford senior offensive lineman David Yankey and senior tight end Zach Ertz and Oregon senior running back Kenjon Barner were named to the offensive team, while Arizona State junior defensive lineman Will Sutton and Oregon State senior defensive back Jordan Poyer were named to the defensive team. The Pac-12's six representatives were the second-most from any conference.
Lee, the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, established new Pac-12 single-season records for receptions and receiving yards, hauling in 112 passes for 1,680 yards (140.0 yards per game) and 14 touchdowns.
Ertz, a finalist for the Mackey Award, has caught 63 passes for an FBS-leading 818 yards, both school records among tight ends. His 63 receptions are tied for the most in the nation.
Yankey, a 12-game starter for the Cardinal, has anchored an offensive line that has allowed a Conference-low 17 sacks this season while paving the way for a rushing attack that averages 173.58 yards per game on the ground.
Barner, a finalist for the Doak Walker and Walter Camp Awards, has rushed for 1,624 yards and 21 touchdowns this season. His 135.33 rushing yards per game rank fourth in the FBS.
Poyer has intercepted a league-leading six passes, and his .60 interceptions per game rank second in the nation. He has collected 44 tackles (30 solo), including four tackles for loss, on the year.
Sutton, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, has posted 20 tackles for loss, including 10.5 quarterback sacks, along with three forced fumbles and five pass breakups this season. He ranks fifth in the FBS with 1.82 tackles for loss, and his .95 sacks per game rank 12th nationally.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. The team is exclusively chosen by the coaches.
