WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-16. Colorado's Chucky Jeffery was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while Washington State's Lia Galdeira was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
A senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeffery led Colorado to a 70-66 upset of No. 8/8 Louisville on Friday, tallying a game- and season-high 22 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing four assists. On Tuesday, she contributed 14 points, 11 boards and five assists in a 83-63 road victory over Denver. She notched her second double-double of the season, and 22nd of her career, moving her into a tie for fifth on Colorado's all-time list. Jeffery was named the espnW's national player of the week, and Colorado cracked the top-25 in the AP poll this week after notching its first victory over a top-10 opponent since 2002.
Freshman Lia Galdeira (Kamuela, Hawaii) scored a game-high 15 points and pulled down six rebounds in Saturday's 62-55 upset of No. 20 Ohio State. The win marked Washington State's first over a ranked opponent since 2001. Galdeira, who is shooting .818 from the free throw line this season, hit on all six of her free throw attempts, with the last four coming in the final 20 seconds. She leads the Cougars in scoring (15.0 ppg), rebounding (5.4 rpg) and steals (27).
It is Jeffery's second-career player of the week honor and Colorado's second all-time. For Galdeira, it is her first freshman of the week accolade. She is WSU's first freshman of the week recipient.
The Buffaloes host Utah Valley on Saturday, Dec. 22, looking to extend their regular season non-conference winning streak to 23 games. The Cougars have a pair of road contests against Big East foes this week. They hit the road to take on No. 14 Lousiville on Tuesday, Dec. 18 before matching up with Syracuse on Friday, Dec. 21.
