By the Pac-12 Conference
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- A pair of men's track and field athletes and four women's athletes from Pac-12 teams were named to the Bowerman Official Preseason Watch List, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced. Among those named were 2012 London Olympians Brigetta Barrett and Georgeanne Moline from Arizona.
The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.
Barrett jumped a collegiate-record 6-8 (2.03m) to claim a silver medal at the Olympics Games, after winning her second-straight high jump NCAA outdoor title, as well as a second-straight Pac-12 title in the event. Moline ran a 53.92 in the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials to make the Olympic team. She was the 2012 Pac-12 Champion in the event, as well.
Joining Barrett and Moline on the preseason watch list are WASHINGTON's Katie Flood and OREGON's English Gardner. Flood is a NCAA Champion in the 1,500 meter in 2012, while Gardner took home the 100-meter individual title and helped the Ducks set an NCAA meet record in the 4x400-meter relay.
On the men's side, two-time NCAA Champion Jordan Clarke from ARIZONA STATE was named to the preseason squad. He was the Men's Athlete of the Meet at the Pac-12 Championships in 2012 after scoring 24 points. Arizona distance runner Lawi Lalang is also on the list. He won the 2011 NCAA Cross Country title and placed third in 2012. He set a collegiate record in the 5,000 at the 2012 Milrose Games and won back-to-back Pac-12 titles in the 1,500 meters.
The Bowerman Watch List is updated throughout the indoor and outdoor track & field season. The winner is announced at the USTFCCCA Convention in December. For more information, visit www.ustfccca.org.
