Cal's Brandon and OSU's Weisner named Pac-12 players of the week

By the Pac-12 Conference

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Jan. 14-20. Caifornia's Gennifer Brandon was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while Oregon State's Jamie Weisner was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week.

Redshirt-junior Gennifer Brandon (Sylmar, Calif.) led No. 7/7 California to a pair of victories and to the top of the Pac-12 standings with wins over previous-Conference leaders USC and No. 14/15 UCLA. Against the Trojans, Brandon posted her second-career 20-20 game, tallying a season-high 23 points to go along with a school-record 26 rebounds. The 26 boards set a new Pac-12 record for individual rebounds in a Conference game, surpassing the previous mark of 25 which was set by UCLA's Natalie Williams in 1994. Brandon followed up with 12 points and 14 rebounds in Cal's 70-65 win over No. 14/15 UCLA. On the weekend, Brandon averaged 17.5 points, 20.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals while shooting at a .467 clip. Brandon ranks ninth in the NCAA and third in the Pac-12 with 11.4 rpg.

Guard Jamie Weisner (Clarkston, Wash.) had another solid week, averaging 18.0 points in two games against rival-Oregon. In Tuesday's 63-53 over the Ducks in Eugene, Weisner led all scorers with 22 points on 7-for-16 shooting, her second 20+ point game of the season. She also made a career-high four three-pointers. In Sunday's 68-49 home win, Weisner scored a game high-tying 14 points as OSU swept Oregon for the second-consecutive season and increased its winning streak against the Ducks to five games. Weisner has scored in double-figures in six straight and 11 games overall this year. She is averaging a team-high 12.3 points per game and has been even better in conference play, upping that to 16.2 per contest.

It is Brandon's second-career player of the week honor and Cal's 39th all-time. It is Weisner's second-consecutive freshman weekly nod this season.

California stays home for a pair of Conference matchups, hosting No. 20 Colorado on Friday, Jan. 25 and Utah on Sunday, Jan. 27. The Beavers hit the road for Washington and Washington State this weekend, taking on the Huskies on Friday then the Cougars on Sunday.

Friday's clash between the Golden Bears and the Buffs will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Check local listings. Fans can also watch the game on the Pac-12 Now app.
