CU's Jeffery, UW's Walton named Pac-12 players of the week

By the Pac-12 Conference

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of March 4-10. Colorado's Chucky Jeffery was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while Washington's Talia Walton was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. Both have received their respective honors multiple times this season.

Senior Chucky Jeffery (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded back-to-back double-doubles to lead No. 21 Colorado to home wins over the Oregon schools over the weekend. She scored 22 points in the 61-47 win over Oregon State, which put her over the 1,500-point milestone and also moved her into 10th on CU's all-time scoring list. She added a season-high three blocked shots, which moved her to 14th on CU's career chart. In the 84-59 win against Oregon, she hit a season-high three 3-pointers while scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. It was her fourth-career double-double with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds. She also dished out three assists to move into fourth place on CU's all-time list.

A forward, Talia Walton (Federal Way, Wash.) helped Washington to a weekend split against the L.A. schools. On Friday, Walton was the team's scoring leader with 18 points as the Dawgs nearly upset No. 17 UCLA, 65-61. Walton was 4-for-5 from 3-point range as the Huskies made 12 threes. She also added five rebounds and two steals. On Sunday, Walton had 12 points and 9 rebounds and scored key baskets in Washington's win 61-58 over USC. She had two steals and two blocks while finishing one rebound shy of a double-double.

It is Jeffery's second weekly honor this season and the third of her career. It is also Colorado's third all-time weekly recognition. Walton earned the weekly freshman accolade for the third time.

Both the Buffs and Huskies hit the road this week. Colorado travels to face Arizona and Arizona State on Friday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 17, respectively. UW takes on the Oregon schools, battling Oregon on Friday, then playing at Oregon State in a rare Monday night affair. Monday's matchup will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks at 6 p.m. PT.
