Pac-12 spring football schedule
It seems as though it's been months since Stanford was holding up the Rose Bowl trophy and Oregon was sending Chip Kelly off with a rousing Fiesta Bowl win. Luckily, it's only felt like it has been a long time since the great sport of college football left us, and we don't have to wait long for it to come back into our lives.
Spring football starts in late February around the Pac-12 and, while there aren't real games being played, there are big position battles to be won, starters to be named and plenty of preparation for the fall to get to. Pac-12.com will provide comprehensive coverage of all 12 teams and Pac-12 Networks will televise every spring game, with details announced at a later date. From Arizona State to Cal to Oregon State to 'Zona, here's a handy list of significant dates for each program as the 2013 season approaches and teams get down to business.
The Wildcats have not listed a set starting date for when they take the field this spring. They tentatively have scheduled a scrimmage in Phoenix on Friday, March 29 and Rich Rodriguez and the team will hold their annual spring game on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. PT at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium. Pro Day will be Thursday, March 7.
Arizona will open the upcoming season with Northern Arizona at home on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Head coach Todd Graham will look to capitalize off a successful first season by starting spring practice on Tuesday, March 19. The Sun Devils' spring game will be at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday, April 13, with practices continuing afterward until Thursday, April 18.
Arizona State opens at home with Sacramento State on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Sonny Dykes is the new man in charge as spring practices get underway in Strawberry Canyon on Monday, Feb. 25. Practices run through Saturday, March 23, when the Golden Bears host their annual spring game starting at 4 p.m. PT in Memorial Stadium. Pro Day will be Monday, March 11.
Cal starts the season off with three straight games at home, led by the opener against Northwestern on Saturday, Aug. 31.
New coach Mike MacIntyre will see what his new team is made of when the Buffaloes start spring practice on Thursday, March 7. The program's spring game will take place at Folsom Field on Saturday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. MT with the final spring practice on Tuesday, April 16. Pro Day will be Wednesday, March 13.
Colorado opens the 2013 season with rival Colorado State at Sports Authority Field in Denver on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Spring practice begins on Tuesday, April 2 as Mark Helfrich slides over to the head coach's chair in Eugene. The program will hold a much anticipated spring game on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. PT in Autzen Stadium. Pro Day will be Thursday, March 14.
Oregon opens the upcoming season at home against Nicholls State on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The Beavers and company have not finalized their spring practice plans, but Mike Riley and company are set to kick off the annual spring game at 7 p.m. PT at Reser Stadium on Friday, April 26. Pro Day will be Friday, March 15.
Oregon State stays at home for the opener against Eastern Washington on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The defending Pac-12 and Rose Bowl champions will kick off their title defense with spring practices beginning on Monday, Feb. 25 and running over two sessions. The annual Cardinal & White Spring Game will take place at 3 p.m. PT at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, April 13. Pro Day will be Thursday, March 21.
David Shaw's team opens the season with San Jose State at home on Saturday, Sept. 7.
A successful first season under Jim Mora has the Bruins wanting more and they'll be hungry when spring practice begins on Tuesday, April 2. The Rose Bowl will play host to the annual spring game on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m. PT.
UCLA's season opener comes against Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Rose Bowl.
Lane Kiffin is looking to get the team back on track after a disappointing 2012 season as a host of talented freshman have arrived on campus to provide a boost for spring practices in early March. The Trojans wrap things up at the Coliseum on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. PT. Pro Day will be Wednesday, March 27.
USC opens on the road in 2013, traveling to Hawaii on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The Utes' spring practices get going on Tuesday, March 19 and will host a spring game at Rice-Eccles Stadium at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday, April 20. Pro Day will be Wednesday, March 20.
Utah's opener will be at home in 2013 against in-state rival Utah State.
Steve Sarkisian looks to take the next step with his program and the foundation for that will be built in the spring as the Huskies look to make noise in the Pac-12. The team will host their annual spring game on Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m. PT.
Washington opens the renovated Husky Stadium with Boise State in 2013.
Thursday, March 21 is when Mike Leach and his squad break out of their conditioning programs and focus on football this spring. The Cougars wrap up spring practice with a game held at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. PT. The team wraps up practice on Tuesday, April 23 with Pro Day will be Thursday, March 7.
Washington State opens with a road trip to Auburn on Saturday, Aug. 31.
